Having a hard time getting up in the morning? A better pillow or an earlier bedtime might help. But the cure might be as easy as downloading a free app to your phone. Each of these apps tries some, well... out of the box strategies for getting your butt out of bed every day.

The Rock Clock

Yep, that Rock. Let the voice of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson get you up in the morning with daily motivational messages, aspirational daily goals and 25 custom alarm tones (which are actually the hilarious crown jewel of the whole app – you can preview them them on the website). Get the app: iTunes, Google Play

Snap Me Up

Whether you think a morning selfie is a chore or a treat, I still think this alarm might work for you. With Snap Me Up, you set alarms that can only be turned off by taking a seflie. And, yes, they all get stored and saved. Get the app: Google Play

iCuckoo Charity Alarm Clock

With iCuckoo, you set two preferences: Your wake up time and a charity you want to support. Each time you snooze, iCuckoo adds up pre-set donation amounts and will prompt you to donate the funds to charity. (I happen to think that setting a charity you don't want to support might be a better deterrent to snoozing, actually.) Get the app: iTunes

Walk Me Up!

This app's alarm only turns off once you've walked a certain number of steps. And before you ask, no, it can't be cheated by shaking the phone like a pedometer – Walk Me Up! has an intelligent algorithm to detect your deceit. Get the app: Google Play, iTunes

And one paid app...

For $1.99, this one might be worth it. When you first use the app, it asks you to trace a path from your bed to the place where you go first in the morning – like the bathroom, back door or coffee machine. Then each morning, instead of letting you snooze, the app makes you go there again before it shuts off. Get the app: iTunes
