Every home has something to teach and each small home in the Small Cool contest holds lessons and tricks for living well while living small. Below is some wisdom from today's crop of entries including making the most of hallways, faking an extra window and a decor magic trick!

Is Pamela a magician with the power to make books float in the air? No, she chose a slender acrylic coffee table for her narrow living room which provides functionality without adding visual heft.

Sum of Its Parts

Another lesson in making coffee tables work in a small space - use multiple smaller pieces (ottomans, end tables, stools) which can more easily be moved around or, in this case, used for additional seating.

Open Up

Marc could have chosen a closed cabinet to house his glassware but these shelves keep the small space looking open and the glasses help bounce light around the room. This wouldn't be a good setup if you have small children or pets, but for Marc's apartment, it's a savvy choice.

Fiat Lux

Arvind's apartment has a very average ceiling height but the lights encircling this room draw the eye upward and help the room feel taller and larger.

Curtain Call

When your bedroom and living room share a space, you may want to create privacy. A curtain does just that but also offers flexibility. Pull the curtain back and the room is suddenly larger.

Cloud Effect

Casey's small bedroom only has one small window, which isn't visible while you're in bed. She hung a large, dreamy cloud poster which almost feels like a second window.

What's Black & White & Red All Over?

Kelly intentionally chose a very narrow color palette for her apartment — just three colors — which helps the space look and feel cohesive.

Transition Spaces

It can be hard to use hallways for storage, but if yours is wide enough, consider lining it with shelves or tall wardrobes. Consuelo's go practically to the ceiling and add a ton of storage.
