One of a Kind Design: 13 Kitchens with Totally Unique Style

Whether it's white cabinets and marble countertops and gold fixtures or navy blue shaker cabinets with a butcherblock countertop and a farmhouse sink, I see a lot of kitchens that fit a particular pattern. This isn't really much of a surprise — if resale value is your game, you probably don't want to do anything too crazy in your kitchen, and besides, things that are popular are popular for a reason: because they look nice. But it means that I cherish kitchens that are a little off the beaten path, spaces that play fast and loose with color, that mix materials you wouldn't expect, with fantastic results. Here are 13 of my favorites.

The kitchen of Olatz Schnabel's SoHo home, spotted on T Magazine, gets a bit of a French country feel from the oversized stone sink — but the emerald green walls make it totally unique.

A kitchen from Vogue goes for broke with gold. Also notable: the cabinets pulls, the beautiful blue shade of the cabinets, the lovely wood countertops, and the painting poised bravely over the sink.

You don't need crazy colors to have a unique kitchen: this space from SF Girl by Bay is particularly memorable thanks to the marble tiled island and beautiful patchwork floor.
