How To Protect Door from "Knocking" Dog?

Q: Hi guys! My wife and I are moving to a new place soon. We're currently living at her place, and we noticed that our dog likes to "knock" by scratching the door if she can't get our attention trying to come into our room.

We noticed that the paint has come off the door and would like to ask if you guys have any experience on this and if there's anything we could do or apply on the door. My father's advice is to stamp a metal sheet on the door. Though this looks like a quick and easy fix that will save the paint on the door, we think it's an eyesore and she might not feel good scratching it. -Sent by Gerald

Editor: Any advice for protecting a door from scratches and/or preventing a dog from scratching in the first place? Any dog training or anxiety-relieving tips to share? Thanks!
