God Save the Cute: Britain Needs Hedgehog Helpers

There is a crisis amongst Britain's hedgehog population, and the prickly little cuties need you, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The hedgehog population has taken a downturn (3-4% drop annually), and there are currently four open positions for "hedgehog officer" around the UK to help protect the animals, as well as volunteer opportunities.

Over 150 people from as far away as Kenya and Mexico applied to be the dedicated officer for Ipswich, where job responsibilities include making the town the "most hedgehog friendly" in England. What constitutes hedgehog friendliness? Not destroying hedgerows, keeping escape holes in fences, and leaving leaves on the ground for shelter and as ecosystems for food.
