Before & After: A Short on Storage Kitchen Gets a Bespoke Update

We inherited our old kitchen when we moved into our Edwardian house two years ago. It had very limited storage space (the cupboards you see in the photo were the only cupboards!), a cold floor, was very dark and had a dodgy old oven and hob. We couldn't wait to change it and make it a proper working kitchen as we both love to cook.

Eventually, we took the plunge and had our carpenter make our kitchen for us. I spent a long time planning and designing it and going bespoke actually worked out cheaper than purchasing one off the shelf. We now have plenty of storage which makes very efficient use of space (drawer under cooker, corner cupboards either side of the sink, a hidden bin/recycling cupboard, etc.), a free standing gas cooker, integrated appliances, oak work surfaces and a cupboard dedicated to glasses (which also has a light in it).

Our carpenter not only made every element, he also painted each door by hand. We used Marston and Langinger Eggshell on the cupboards, in complimentary colors, and went for a double bowl sink which is a real luxury but also very useful. The flooring is Karndean which is a wood-effect, plastic-type flooring, laid in planks, is easy to clean and, crucially, it's MUCH warmer than tiles.

We love our kitchen and appreciate it everyday!

Thank you, Naomi!
