Name: Meghan & Jesse
Location: Los Angeles, California
Our Apartment is a 1920s Spanish Studio in an older neighborhood of Los Angeles. We fell for the roof beams, dark hardwoods and french doors in the apartment immediately, as we'd been looking for an older place with charm, and it had even more than we'd have hoped (especially for LA). It's around 550 square feet and has a lot of old, fun details like a pull-down ironing board and a stained glass kitchen pendant light.
We've decorated it with a mixture of purposefully chosen or inherited antique/architectural salvage pieces and a few special reclaimed hardwood pieces that I made specifically for the space when we first arrived (my dad is a carpenter so it runs deep in the blood). There are many, many books (since my husband is an academic), vintage pieces, plants, and a few elevating artworks hanging on the walls. We have no tv (happily).
It is a simple but well lit and a very inviting space, which we have found to be a refuge when the city is too much for us. Being a bit of a luddite, I take decor (and life!) inspiration from old things: manuscript art and iconography, the arts and crafts movement, Oushak and Armenian rugs, industrial salvage, 1900s wallpaper, vintage fabrics textures and patterns. Most of what we keep in our space has a story behind it.
Thanks, Meghan & Jesse !
