A Black & White Brutalist-Inspired Loft

A Black & White Brutalist-Inspired Loft

Name: Alexandre
Location: Akron, Ohio

In March of this year, my partner Dominic and I moved into a custom built 1,700 square foot loft space after three years of renovation. Formerly a rubber factory in downtown Akron, Ohio, the building features original steel beams and stunning maple floors over a century old, scarred from years of tire manufacturing.

The building had been abandoned for years and is now beautifully restored for the first time as a residential space. We have taken advantage of the inherent rawness, furnishing the loft with primitive materials in a brutalist fashion. Black pine, hammered bronze, concrete, bone, and alabaster are used throughout to embody both ancient and modern design sensibilities.

Some of our favorite items in the space include a 9 foot water feature and the dining set, both designed and built to our specifications. This loft is without a doubt our dream home!

Thanks, Alexandre!
